Being yourself is only accepted when “yourself” is the same as anyone else
Dear Reader:
Dear reader, individuality had always been important to me. I grew up with two older sister and spent most my childhood trying to prove that I was someone other then my sister's little sister. Being my own person meant a lot to me but as I grew I learned fast that the rest of the world did not agree. I chose this for my topic because I believed there was much to say about it.
In this website the first piece you will come to is a story called "My Name is Angel". The idea behind this story was that even if a person was the literal incarnate of goodness, people will still disgrace them for being different. The next piece is a look at the facts and numbers involved in what a lost of individuality and desperation to fit in does to people and society. The third part is a infomercial about "FIT IN" be sure to pay attention to the side effects. The Visual piece is a symbolic drawing of the "death" of individuality.
At the end of each piece is a quote; “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”~Ralph Waldo Emerson. This quote sums of the entire idea of this project, it is hard to be yourself, but the effort is worth it.
