Final Reflection
This piece ends this Multi-Genre Collection. The issue of individuality underlines so many issues but never seems to get its own time of day. In the creation of this article, these issues came up over and over: bullying, self-worth, mental illness, suicide, and the difference between fitting in and belonging. While complex, the disapproval of individuality is a key root in all of them.
In regards to the strength and weakness of this project, the creative aspects such as the drawing, short story and infomercial are by far the strongest aspects. Personally, the freedom of creative works help greatly in the construction of pieces, the concept of the short story came especially easy. The most difficult part was definitely the informational research piece as several different forms were tried out before the blog format was chosen. Formatting it as a blog was eventually chosen as it allowed for slightly less structure, therefore, more room for creativity and emotion.
Given the chance to redo or have an expanded timeline on this project, the non-fiction and information research pieces would have been redone and expanded on. The non-fiction may only be loosely considered non-fiction as the idea was originally going to be in the informational research category but did not fit as to the lack of sources outside the music and pictures. The information research item would have been longer and more in depth but the time restraints and frankly my trouble with concentrating during the given time left it bare bones so to say.
The best piece in the entire collection is the short story “My Name is Angel” This piece was the first and also had been peer edited several times. The idea was to show how people do not like things that are different by having the literal incarnate of goodness and holiness, an angel is torn apart and disregarded as “weird”. The final line “My name is Angel.” is not only the title but also shows her mental downward spiral, not only was she physically stripped of her wings but mentally stripped of any believe that she was anything more than a strange girl.
One last thing to recognise is that there is no glamorous lightning strike type solution to all this, there is no possible way to get every person on Earth to accept all our differences. The only way to make any difference is to start with yourself, and the people you have an influence on. We are all different and for that exact reason, we are the same.
